CommsDirect named Welsh Company of the
Year at the annual Western Mail Business
Awards 2007
On Friday, 18th May, at the Western Mail
Business Awards in the Cardiff International
Arena in front of an audience of nearly 800
business leaders, CommsDirect was named
“Welsh Company of the Year”.
We were up against strong competition from
some of the most successful companies in
Wales so it was a huge achievement in winning
this coveted award. Our company has firmly
established itself as the best in Wales and is
committed to its continued success and growth.

In January 2007, our Managing Director,
Matt Burge, was named as a finalist in the
Businesses over 250 employees category
at the Leading Wales Awards 2007 that
recognise and celebrate inspirational leaders
across Wales.
The Leading Wales Awards lunch which took
place on Friday, 15th February 2007 at the
Hilton Hotel, Cardiff, recognises great
leadership at all levels across the public,
private and voluntary sectors in Wales,
celebrating individuals whose excellent
leadership skills have made a strong impact
and resulted in positive change within their
organisations.
2006
Communications Direct crowned UK’s the
No:1 Best New Business in Britain (Winner
of the National HSBC New Business Stars
Award)
Communications Direct was named overall
winner at the 2006 HSBC Start-up Awards,
the UK’s premier showcase honouring the
most promising fledgling firms less than
three years old . The presentation of the
award was made before an audience of
300 guests drawn from the worlds of
business, politics and the media at
London’s famous Savoy Hotel on Tuesday,
October 17th.
It was really exciting news when, in the
summer of 2006, Communications Direct
won the regional heats. This was followed
by a very memorable evening at the Savoy
Hotel in London for Matt Burge,
Marc Winchester (co-founders),
John McShane (Technical Director)
accompanied by the original members
of staff who had worked for
Communications Direct from start-up.
It was a momentous occasion when our
company was crowned the UK’s no: Best
Business in Britain 2006.

Awarded Fastest Growing Business in Wales
and Winner of the Wales Fast Growth 50
Awards & Winner of the Fastest Growing
Business – Consumer Services Award
The Wales Fast Growth 50 listing * has been
the regional barometer of indigenous business
in Wales for the last 8 years. The list continues
to show the vitality of Welsh entrepreneurs
across all parts and all sectors of our economy.
As a result of CommsDirect’s astonishing
4,183% growth in just 3 years, we were named
“Wales’ fastest growing company” in December
2006.
The evening was full of surprises and to our
delight, our company also picked up the Fast
Growing Business – Consumer Services Award.

by the Western Mail.
Regional winner of the British Chamber of
Commerce “Most Promising New Business
Award”
In Spring 2006 , we were nominated by the
Cardiff Chamber of Commerce for entry into
the British Chamber of Commerce 2006 Awards.
In October 2006, we were delighted with
the announcement that we were the regional
winner in the “Most Promising New Business”
category. We were one of 9 regional winners
who were shortlisted and the Awards Gala
Dinner then took place on 23rd November
2006 at The Old Royal Naval College in
Greenich, London.
Wales Hot 100 2005
Labelled as the definitive guide to Wales’
leading start-up businesses, the award
credits Communications Direct as having
grown “very quickly to become one of
Europe’s largest and most respected
direct sales mobile phone specialists.”
Of all companies launched in2003, Comm,
Communications Direct had certainly grown
the fastest with turnover for that year
exceeding £3.3 million.
