We have established the CDL charitable fund as
a centralised operation to co-ordinate all of our
sponsorship and charitable activities. The fund
offers small grants to UK registered charities
nominated by employees or customers.
This affords the opportunity to support employees
and the general public when they are undertaking
personal challenges such as marathons or
triathlons or just making a donation to a charity
that has touched their hearts and lives.
In addition, our own staff have been very
enthusiastic in organizing fundraising activities
in support of several charitable events over the
last 12 months or so. Here are a few of our
favourite highlights over the last 12 months.
Comic Relief - Red Nose Day – 16th March 2007
We extend our thanks once again to our generous
and enthusiastic staff members who marked the
occasion by wearing the obligatory “red noses”
to work and went the whole hog by dressing up
in fancy dress costumes too! As a result, £267.80
was raised by our staff in the Cardiff office.
Our winners of the fancy dress competitions were
Liam Jones & … (Silvester & Tweetie Pie) and
Natasha Beasley and Damian McCelvey who flew
the Irish flag by wearing Red Tops Hats to support
St. Patrick’s Day.
Children-In-Need Fundraising Day – Friday,
17th November 2006
Oh What a Perfect Day!
The day was action packed and certainly very
memorable when the fire alarm sounded mid-morning
and everyone in the Cardiff office marched out to the
front of Boots The Chemist (our relocation point) in
the pouring rain. It was at this moment, we had a rare appearance from Superman (alias Justin in our Call
Monitoring Department) followed closely by Minnie
Mouse (Adam ! our IT Manager), The Flintstones
(Liam Jones, Team Manager & David Jenkins) and
of course, Pudsey Bear (Neil Edwards) – with Darth
Vader in close pursuit! We don’t think Queen Street
has recovered!
Our spirits were certainly not dampened and several fundraising activities continued during the afternoon
– an auction for Cardiff City Hospitality tickets,
Minnie Mouse endured (his) first leg wax (ouch!) and
a managers face-painting competition!
The Swansea office also joined in the fun and
supported Sales Manager, Andrew Kissick’s father
(Peter) in his bid to Climb Mount Everest, the highest
mountain in the world (29,017.16ft – above sea level)
- albeit on a treadmill !! A grand total of £800 was
raised from both offices including a company donation
to support Children-in-Need.
Noah’s Arc Appeal - Bring £1 into work day
– Autumn 2006
Staff participated in a dress-down day and raised
£280 which included a company donation to this
local charity. We thank our staff for their generosity
once again.
British Heart Foundation – 10k Walk -
Autumn/Winter 2006
Well done to Shaz Woods, Sales Support Dept,
who collected £243 (including a company donation)
to support her favourite charity. Shaz labelled
“a serial fundraiser”, was strapped to the leg of
Paul Jenkins (registered blind) who was
accompanied by his faithful black Labrador leading
the way.
Shaz also participated in the annual Santa Dash
– in front of Winter Wonderland and topped off
the year by collecting a further £100 in support
of BHF.
Comic Relief - Sport Relief – Saturday,
15th July 2006
Shaz Woods, went the extra mile when despite
the hot weather, she completed the mile dressed
up in a chicken costume (!)
The Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile event took its
inspiration from Roger Bannister’s epic sub four
minute mile and inspired a series of huge
mile-themed events up and down the UK. On this
occasion, just over £200 was raised for Comic
Relief and thanks everyone for their continued
support.
Over £2,000 raised for Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
– Summer 2006
There’s a fine line between charity and insanity!
When Ryan Jacob and Mike Johnson announced
that they were going to climb a mountain in
Snowdonia – we were in awe!
However, when Ryan and Mike added that they
were going to actually carry, as part of a larger
team of individuals, a lady in a wheelchair – we
were amazed. So in 28 degree heat over a rather
large mountain in North Wales, clambering through
mud pits, rivers, up and down slopes, getting
scratched by branches and eaten alive by bugs
for three and half hours - they completed their
task for the 2nd year running. What an achievement!
Thanks also to Jason Lewis, Justin Benfield,
Carter and Vicky Dommett who also took part
in this event (The National Annual MS Challenge)
the year before.
